Chiropractic in pregnancy is vital to the normal physiological function of both the mother and baby during pregnancy. The mother’s body goes through a tremendous amount of change during pregnancy. Some of these changes can be stressful and painful to the mother if they are not properly addressed.
Physically the mother’s pelvis tries to accommodate an increase in load on the front of the body. Chiropractic helps prepare the pelvis for an easier pregnancy and birth by creating a state of balance in the bony structures, muscles, and ligaments in the pelvic region. This also benefits the baby by allowing room to move into the best possible birth position. The chiropractic manipulation also directly affects the central nervous system which controls and coordinates all of the mother’s systems and functions.
The Webster Technique is a safe, effective chiropractic assessment and treatment that restores proper pelvic balance and function for pregnant mothers. There has been high reported success rate of the baby turning to the normal vertex position in expectant mothers presenting breech who utilize the Webster technique. This specific analysis and adjustment of the sacrum should be used throughout pregnancy, to detect imbalance and prevent intrauterine constraint.
